Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria and it is the largest city of the country.
It is located in the western part of the country, on the lower slopes of Vitosha Mountain. The city has a history of thousands of years and it is one of the oldest cities in Europe.

See the symbols of Sofia
Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is one of the symbols of Sofia. The cathedral impresses with its architecture but the most remarkable are the gilded domes.
The National Assembly's main building has been proclaimed a monument of culture for its historic significance and it was designed in Neo-Renaissance style.
Central Department Store and Statue of St. Sofia are also a part of the architectural center of Sofia.
Ivan Vazov National Theatre is the oldest and the biggest theatre in Bulgaria.

Take a little break in the parks
Sofia is not as big as other european capitals but there are more than 10 parks and city gardens.
One of the most famous is Borisova gradina, or Boris' garden. it is named after Bulgarian Tsar Boris III. Nowadays it is one of the best green spot in the city. There are also nice restaurants and cafes, a lake, stadions, tennis court, nice cycling track.
Very popular are the South park, the City garden, the Military Academy park.
Go shopping or eat something delicious...or both
Sofia's main shopping street is Vitosha boulevard. There are a lot of fancy stores, nice bars and elegant restaurants. The capital is famous with its modern shopping malls too.
Sofia offers one of the best food experiences in the country! You can try a traditional bulgarian dishes in typical tavern or stunning fusion cusine in one of the high quality restaurants.
